The Arizona Cardinals have hired Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon as their next Head Coach. While the Eagles attempted to keep their star defensive coordinator, the lure of a head coaching job was too much for the up-and-coming offensive mind. Arizona considered several people in their search, but had Gannon in mind and made the move after the team’s loss in Super Bowl LVII. The team parted ways with Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury just one yar removed from giving him a massive extension. Philadelphia lost both of their coordinators on the same day just days after losing the Super Bowl.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense was a top unit in the NFL this season under the leadership and scheme of Jonathan Gannon. He inherits a less-than-stellar defense in Arizona that needs a major revamp in scheme and personnel this offseason. Kingsbury was a major offensive mind and it seems the team has decided to shift their focus with the team. With quarterback Kyler Murray likely to miss a good portion of next season with his ACL recovery, the defense will need to be a better unit in the future. The offensive coordinator pick will need to be a good one for next season.
Philadelphia is in a tough spot after losing both their offensive and defensive coordinator on the same day. Returning to a Super Bowl can be hard without turnover and now they have to replace the most important caching spots under the Head Coach. Jonathan Gannon will be tasked with righting the ship in Arizona next season.
