With each passing day, Jon Jones continues to cement himself as arguably the greatest fighter to ever step into an octagon. While today he did nothing to take away from that legacy, he had to work for every point he earned on a judge’s score card. Tonight in Houston, Jon “Bones” Jones emerged with a unanimous victory over light heavyweight prospect Dominick Reyes. Judges scored the five round bout, 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46, in Jones favor.

STILL THE CHAMP.

The fight was largely determined in the third round as Reyes looked gassed throughout the five minute journey. In the first ten minutes of the fight, Reyes shot out to an early lead by utilizing incredible movement to keep Jones off of him. However, fatigued settled in early during the third round which seemingly swung it in Jones favor. From that point on, Jones successfully stalked Reyes around the ring throughout the last ten minutes. Surprisingly, every time Reyes was able to pop back up after Jones dragged him down throughout the fight.

Coming into this fight, Jones said this fight would be “scary” and he was absolutely right. Reyes proved to be one of the stiffer tests of his career and it seems almost inevitable that the two will have a rematch in the near future. For now, Jones can continue his run as the UFC’s Light Heavyweight Champion.
