Former Syracuse Orange senior guard Joe Girard has announced that he has committed to the Clemson Tigers for next season. He is able to play next season thanks to the extra year of eligibility granted to players due to the impact the Coronavirus had on the 2020-21 college basketball season. Girard announced his decision to transfer this offseason after longtime Syracuse Orange Head Coach Jim Boeheim announced that he was retiring from the position. While he considered several programs, the ACC rivals won out for his final college basketball season.

This past season as a senior for the Syracuse Orange, Joe Girard averaged 16.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and three assists per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 40.3 percent and a three-point percentage of 38.1 percent. Clemson is continuing to try and build on their program which has been below average for some time. Girard will look to have his best season in college basketball to close out his career in the NCAA. Improving his stock for overseas pro leagues would also be ideal for the former Orange guard. The Tigers will be looking to make the 2024 NCAA Tournament next year.
