Shortly after celebrating the fifth anniversary of his Dreamville debut, The Never Story, J.I.D has returned with his first studio album, The Forever Story. The Georgia native’s first studio album includes contributions from his Dreamville counterparts Earthgang and Ari Lennox. Yasiin Bey, Lil’ Wayne, Johnta Austin, Kenny Mason, 21 Savage, Baby Tate and many others will also offer vocals on this project. Not to mention, The Forever Story is filled with production from the likes of Hollywood Cole, Kaytranada, Thundercat, James Blake and DJ Scheme among others.
“This is just a good piece of the origin story, and this is me finding that space to be more visible and present with words,” J.I.D told Jordan Rose of Complex about his latest project, The Forever Story.
“It gives inklings of why my [mindset] is a certain type of way. I gave more detail and in-depth stories [on this album], but there are still more layers to be peeled back, which I am going to do because this is going to be a long process of trying to understand me.”
The Forever Story serves as the follow-up to his third project under the Dreamville umbrella, DiCaprio 2. Released in November 2018, the 14-track offering was not short on star power. DiCaprio 2 featured the likes of J. Cole, A$AP Ferg, Method Man, 6LACK, Ella Mai, Joey Bada$$ and BJ The Chicago Kid. Billboard, VIBE, Rolling Stone, Complex and HotNewHipHop all recognized DiCaprio 2 as one 20 best projects of the year. J.I.D has teased the release of a third DiCaprio project in the near future with the help of DJ Drama.
“Me and [DJ] Drama are really gonna do it right,” he told Jordan Rose of Complex.
“I’m talkin’ about on other niggas beats. We’re going to do a DiCaprio 3.”
