Rolling Stone and Jigsaw are reportedly working on a documentary series and podcast about the rise of Young Thug and his record imprint, YSL. Both projects will also explore the rapper’s legal woes and the obstacles many of its artists currently face. Rolling Stone CEO Gus Wenner and Rolling Stone Senior Vice President Jason Fine will oversee both projects as they chronicle the story in “real-time.” Supporting their efforts, Stacey Offman and Richard Perello of Jigsaw Productions will act as executive producers of the documentary.
“Jigsaw is thrilled to partner with the formidable team at Rolling Stone to explore Young Thug and YSL Records’ story in a style that is both absorbing and journalistically rigorous,” Offman told Variety.
“It’s an intriguing narrative with engaging characters and enormous First Amendment consequences when song lyrics are applied in a criminal indictment.”
This is not the first time that Rolling Stone has delved into the world of documentaries and podcasting. Recently, the outlet has crafted film projects about the fall of Tekashi 6ix9ine, the history of Rolling Stone and the career of Little Richard. Also, Rolling Stone produced a podcast about the 500 greatest albums of all time for Amazon. Moving forward, Rolling Stone is set to produce nearly three dozen projects for various platforms.
