Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum constantly finds his name tied up in trade rumors alongside New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis. Davis is one of the best five or so players on the planet and plays a starring role for a middling small-market team. Tatum is a bright young star on an uber-talented large-market team. It is inevitable that the two are connected in trade rumors.
Tatum addressed those rumors, basically saying he gets it; he would trade himself for Anthony Davis, too. He said this in response to his father saying he would trade Tatum for Davis – if Tatum wasn’t his son, of course. From CBS Sports:
Tatum is well aware of the talk, as is his father, Justin. Justin told Cedric Maxwell of “The Sports Hub” that “I probably would trade [Tatum] too, if he wasn’t my son” to get Davis.
When Tatum was told that his dad had said that, his response was simple: “Yeah, I’d trade me too for Anthony Davis,” he told Maxwell. The response drew some laughs.
Through 39 games this season, Tatum has averaged 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field. The Celtics are fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 24-15.
