Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter praised director Jeymes Samuel at The Book of Clarence premiere in Los Angeles, California on Friday, January 5, 2024. The New York native told Jaelani Turner-Williams of Complex that it was “refreshing” to work alongside who is “fearless” and “daring.”
“I just think he’s fearless and he’s daring. He dreams really big,” Carter answered when asked about Samuel.
“It’s refreshing to be around someone who just has a story in their head and sticks with it. These stories, you know, we worked on it over the years, but these stories have been in his head for 15-20 years. He’s just like, the way he saw it [made him feel that] this [was] going to happen. [Ultimately], all of these things slowly but surely came to fruition.”
Starring LaKeith Stanfield and Omar Sy, The Book of Clarence follows a man “struggling to find a better life for his family, while fighting to free himself of debt.”
“Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and His apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, and ultimately discovers that the redemptive power of belief may be his only way out,” the synopsis continues.
The Book of Clarence will debut in theaters on Friday, January 12, 2024.
