Judas and the Black Messiah arrived on HBO Max this weekend. Starring LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya, the film tells the story of FBI informant William O’Neal and the assassination of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton. The Warner Bros. picture was accompanied by a highly anticipated soundtrack called, Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired Album.
The soundtrack included contributions from a number of Chicago artists including G Herbo, Lil’ Durk, BJ The Chicago Kid and several others. Fred Hampton’s son, Fred Hampton Jr., also offered the intro for the soundtrack. Adding on to the soundtrack, Jay-Z and Nipsey Hussle put together the project’s lead single, “What It Feels Like” produced by Hit-Boy. It marked the first time the two had ever worked together and it did not disappoint.
“What It Feels Like” was much more than a single for Jay-Z. During a recent interview, he revealed that he did not accept any monetary fees for his verse. Instead, he split the fee between the Hampton House and Nipsey Hussle’s estate.
“My fee, went half to the Nip estate, half to the Hampton House,” he said.
The soundtrack and film are now available on your nearest streaming platform.
