Super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia is ready to return to the ring. On September 20, the Mexican power puncher will challenge unbeaten veteran Erik Bazinyan at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Eye of the Tiger, Zanfer Promotions, and Golden Boy Promotions, the main event will be broadcasted on ESPN.
“Jaime Munguia has emerged as one of Mexico’s elite fighters. We are thrilled to showcase his telegenic, action-packed style to sports fans around the world,” Top Rank President Todd duBoef said.
“Erik Bazinyan has been on Jaime’s radar for several years, and Jaime knows he must be at the top of his game.”
Munguia enters the ring for the first time this year. In January, he earned a career-best victory against former world title challenger John Ryder. Four months later, he suffered the first loss of his career at the hands of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Bouncing back from his first defeat, Munguia will look to get back on the winning track as he makes his ESPN debut.
“I can’t wait to return to Arizona against an undefeated and motivated Erik Bazinyan and for the fight to be shown on the world’s biggest networks,” Munguia said.
“I fight for the fans and look forward to giving them a great show.”
Bazinyan is an 11-year pro with a record of 32-0-1 who is looking to earn a statement victory that would put him on the radar of the division’s top fighters. Like Munguia, he has fought twice this year, earning a win against Billi Facundo Godoy and fighting to a draw with Shakeel Phinn.
“It’s the perfect timing to shock the world. I’ve worked my entire career for this moment, and I know I’ve got everything it takes to beat Jaime Munguia,” Bazinyan said.
