Midway through Saturday’s Big Ten matchup featuring the Wolverines and Hoosiers, it appeared that the University of Indiana might be on the verge of pulling off a major upset. However, Jim Harbaugh and the University of Michigan were able to shutout the Hoosiers while putting up an additional 21 points on the board. Ultimately, the Wolverines walked out of Bloomington with a 31-10 win and the Hoosiers were left looking for answers. As the University of Indiana football program moves forward, it will do so without the leadership of Darren Hiller. The Daily Hoosier has reported that Hiller will no longer serve as the team’s offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
“I want to thank Darren for his efforts and dedication to our football program,” University of Indiana Head Coach Tom Allen said.
“He represented IU in a first-class manner, but I believe it is time for a new voice to lead the offensive line room.”
In Hiller’s absence, Rod Carey will take over offensive line and run game coordinator duties. Carey was a three-year starting center for the Hoosiers from 1990 through 1993. He has also served as an offensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Illinois State University and the University of North Dakota.
“Rod is a tremendous football coach and leader of young men,” Allen said.
“His record as a head coach and offensive line coach speaks for itself. Rod will make an immediate impact and integrate well with our offensive staff.”
The University of Indiana Hoosiers will play the University of Maryland Terrapins on October 15, 2022 in Bloomington, Indiana.
