Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte has indicated that he will not reschedule his bout with Otto Wallin. Instead, he will seek out a fight with Tyson Fury as the mandatory challenger for the WBC Heavyweight Championship. Whyte hopes to formally secure the bout by early next year.
“That’ll be the plan,” Whyte told BBC.
As expected, members of Wallin’s camp are not satisfied with this development. Whyte was scheduled to fight Wallin on October 30, but he pulled out of the fight due to a shoulder injury.
Wallin’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, hopes that the WBC will look into the matter and “make a fair decision relating to this fight and for boxing fans worldwide.”
“Otto Wallin vs. Whyte should be rescheduled,” Salita told the Associated Press.
“Whyte should not be allowed to forego the fight with Otto and fight Fury next as a mandatory challenger.”
If Whyte is not forced to reschedule his fight against Wallin, it is unclear when Wallin will fight next.
