Earlier this week, DJ Drama celebrated the 13-year anniversary of Fabolous’s There Is No Competition II mixtape. It is just one of the many mixtapes that have made the legendary DJ’s mixtape series so memorable. Over the years, he’s tapped in with the likes of Jeezy, Lil’ Wayne, Pharrell and many others. More recently, he’s made an effort to tap in with the emerging creatives that have the ears of a new generation. Most notably, he locked in with Tyler, The Creator to craft Call Me If You Get Lost and win “Best Rap Album” at the Grammy Awards. In addition, he’s teamed up with Symba, Dreamville and a few others throughout the 2020s. This week, he’s locked in with G Perico to release the latest addition to the Gangsta Grillz series, Hot Shot.
G Perico’s Hot Shot is his fourth studio release in the last 18 months. Much like South Central, LA Summers 2 and Tango, the project is a concise 33-minute ride through the City of Angels through the eyes of the rising star. Along the way, he calls on DJ Drama, Steelz and RJmrLA to add a bit of color to the story. Still, the narrative remains much of his own, one of surviving tough circumstances to stand alongside the likes of DJ Drama.
G Perico’s joint mixtape with DJ Drama follows his performance at Rolling Loud earlier this month. Later this year, he’s set to hit the road with Rucci for the Hot Shot Tour. Together, G Perico and Rucci will stop in Brooklyn, Atlanta, Chicago, Oakland, Los Angeles and several other cities before ending things in San Diego, California at Music Box.
