Deontay Wilder and Robert Helenius will not be the only heavyweights fighting at the Barclays Center on October 15, 2022 in Brooklyn, New York. Cuban heavyweight contender Frank Sanchez will reportedly fight Carlos Negron at the Barclays Center in the lead-up to the co-main event.
Frank Sanchez is no stranger to Deontay Wilder’s pay-per-view extravaganzas. Last year, he defeated previously undefeated Efe Ajagba by unanimous decision before Wilder squared off against Tyson Fury for the third time. Following a unanimous decision win against Ajagba, Sanchez was scheduled to fight Negron in January 2022. However, Negron tested positive for COVID-19 and the fight was called off. In his absence, Sanchez cruised to a unanimous decision victory against Christian Hammer. Eight months later, the two have been able to come to terms on a rescheduled bout.
Sanchez joins an event at the Barclays Center that includes the return of Caleb Plant. After losing his super middleweight title last November, the Tennessee native will begin his return against Anthony Dirrell. Meanwhile, Gary Antonio Russell will battle Emmanuel Rodriguez for the second time. Subriel Matias was also set to fight Jeremias Ponce for the vacant IBF super lightweight title, but the fight has been called off due to Visa issues.
