If you were to ask me what my favorite Michael Jackson album was, I would tell you it’s Bad. While the Gary native’s Thriller is the project that stands alone as one of, if not the biggest album in history, I am always fascinated with how creatives top what is perceived to be their biggest or breakout project. For this reason, Drake’s Take Care follow-up, Nothing Was The Same, is my favorite Drake album. I also have a special place in my heart for J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive follow-up, For Your Eyez Only. I am always fascinated with how artists follow up success. Keeping this in mind, I am interested in what an artist by the name of Felivand will do next.
Last year, the Australian-based artist broke out with her EP, Nerve. With co-signs from Lyrical Lemonade, COLORS and several other major entities, Felivand was on the map in a big way in 2020. One year later, she has returned as the newest addition to Sweat It Out, Niche Productions and UNIFIED. More importantly, the 22-year-old star has come back with a new track called “Where Were You.” Created during a time in which many friendships and personal relationships have been strained, Felivand’s latest track speaks to the emptiness that many of us feel when the people we love most aren’t there when we need them. Wrapped in blue chords and an unforgiving bass, the song takes you into Felivand’s world and doesn’t let you go.
“I wrote this after realizing someone wasn’t there for me in a way I thought they would be. I felt let down and forgotten and this song is a pretty raw and impassioned outlet of that feeling,” she said about her new track.
If “Where Were You” is a sign of what is to come from the blossoming musician, then we all have a lot to be happy about. Check out the new track below.
