Desmond Trufant is the biggest name on the impending free agent for the Falcons. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Falcons are close to landing an extension for the stud cornerback.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also adds that the deal the new contract could come in a similar range to what Josh Norman got last year which was 5 years at $75 million. Anywhere from $12 to $14 million per year is the expected total.
Trufant, 26, is a former first-round pick from the University of Washington back in 2013, 22nd overall. Up until last season, he had started all 16 games in every season. He ended up on injured reserve in 2016 missing the Super Bowl due to a pectoral injury. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 32nd best cornerback in 2016. His best season came in 2015 when the Falcons cornerback earned Pro Bowl honors.
Now that Trufant is signed, the Falcons are still expected to try to improve their defense this offseason.
