At the top of the year, a number of boxing fans were excited for everything that was set to take place throughout the summer. Deontay Wilder was set to fight Tyson Fury, Teofimo Lopez was scheduled to return and Manny Pacquiao was supposed to share the ring with Errol Spence Jr. Two of those fights were postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests and one was altered after Errol Spence Jr. suffered an eye injury.
As the year comes to a close and two of the three fights are in the books, Errol Spence Jr. looks to be prepared to return to the ring. World Boxing News has reported that Errol Spence Jr. has been cleared to return to the ring in 2022. According to the report, the WBC Welterweight Champion will be scheduled to fight either Alexander Besputin or the Thulani Mbenge-Edward Skavinskiy winner.
Beyond his mandatory challengers, Spence may elect to fight Terence Crawford the unified welterweight title. Yordenis Ugas also remains a possibility for his return bout in 2022.
