On Saturday, January 6, 2024, Ed Sheeran won the Outstanding Music and Lyrics Award at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California at the Peacock Theater. Sheeran said that he was “honored” to be recognized for his musical contributions — “A Beautiful Game” — to Apple TV’s Ted Lasso.
“We won an Emmy last night. I was not expecting to win at all; it was a real surprise waking up to the news. I wish I had been there, but I’m just about to kick off the Asia tour, so I had to be elsewhere, sadly,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram.
“I wrote a song for Ted Lasso with Max Martin and Foy Vance called ‘A Beautiful Game.’ We were all fans of the show and got asked to do a song for the finale, so 2 years ago this month we got in together and wrote a song about love and football, and how it is always about the journey rather than the destination.”
Ted Lasso isn’t done just yet. While Sheeran is performing in Asia, the cast and crew behind the comedy will set their sights on the 2024 Golden Globe Awards at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 7. The series is nominated for three awards at the annual celebration of film and television.
