Did Ed Sheeran just reveal the title of his next album?
This week, a fan of Ed Sheeran’s music noticed that he had changed his profile picture and wondered if he was preparing to release a new album.
“Ed Sheeran recently changed his profile picture guys! What math is he gonna do next?” one fan asked, referring to the artist’s previous album titles like + and =.
In response, the global superstar admitted he wasn’t very good at math, but he didn’t stop there. At the end, he mentioned that he had something “coming soon.”
“Irony is if you ask me anything maths related I would fail the question, I never finished high school,” he wrote. “Play coming soon though.”
The end of Sheeran’s message has led many fans to believe that Sheeran’s next album will be called Play. If so, it would be his first project since 2023. In 2023, Sheeran dropped not one, but two albums — Subtract and Autumn Variations. Since then, he completed a 29-show tour, made a cameo in Sumotherhood and released a documentary series on Disney+.
At the end of his touring run in 2023, Sheeran shared what now feels like a cryptic message via Facebook. He wrote, “See you sometime next year when we press Play again on pop,” on Facebook. More than a year later, it feels like Sheeran is ready to press Play.
