Disney+ is reportedly developing a Holes series. The potential series would follow the direction of Louis Sachar’s book of the same name.
“In this reimagining of the beloved 1998 book from Louis Sachar, a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose,” the official logline for the project reads.
Louis Sachar’s novel was originally adapted into a 2003 film directed by Andrew Davis and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Starring Shia LaBeouf, Khleo Thomas, Brenden Jefferson and Sigourney Weaver, Holes was a box office success, generating $71 million on a $17 million budget.
“Holes still rocks all these years later. It’s thorny, emotionally resonant young adult storytelling with a good filmmaker behind the wheel and a deep cast. We really didn’t know how good we used to have it,” Cory Woodruff of USA Today wrote.
“Smart, funny and truly original, it’s a film capable of entertaining its young target audience as well as the parents who come along for the ride,” Micheal Compton of Bowling Green News Daily added.
The movie, Holes, is currently streaming on Disney+. Meanwhile, the pilot is in the development stage for a potential series to debut at a later date.
