The Duke Blue Devils have gotten two important bits of good news over the last 48 hours. Former 5-star freshmen Matthew Hurt and Wendell Moore both announced that they will be returning to Durham next season.
Both players took to Instagram to confirm their decisions. They included phrases such as “let’s run it back” and “unfinished business” in their posts, expressing their hunger heading into next season.
Wendell Moore was ranked No. 29 in the class of 2019 via 247Sports Composite, and No. 2 in the state of North Carolina. Moore made his name as a multi-positional defender was repeatedly praised for his versatility. His season got bumpy in January, as the NC native broke a bone in his hand, sidelining him for nearly a month. Moore averaged 7.4 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 1.9 APG during his freshman season at Duke.
Matthew Hurt arrived in Durham ranked No. 12 nationally and was touted as the top player from his home state of Minnesota. Hurt gained recognition for his elite shooting ability at 6-foot-9 as well as his mobility around the floor. The freshman led the Blue Devils in 3-pointers made last season, and averaged 9.7 PPG and 3.8 RPG while shooting 39% from deep.
The announcements come after stars Tre Jones, Vernon Carey, and Cassius Stanley announced they would be taking their talents to the NBA. This leaves Hurt and Moore as Duke’s top returning scorers for the Duke Blue Devils.
