We are about 24 hours removed from what could be the signing of the century once all is said and done. Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors. Just saying that sounds crazy but I’m currently living in a Britain that’s tearing apart by the seems so anything is possible I guess.
Draymond Green is the spiritual leader of the Warriors. Without him, the Warriors don’t have that edge. That thing that you can’t see but you know it’s there. I wouldn’t think that he said that to Kevin Durant while attempting to recruit him but whatever he said clearly made an impact.
Green talked to Si’s Alex Kennedy recently about, what else? KD of course.
AK: You aren’t just part of the team, you’ve been a main recruiter over the last year. You’ve had a lot of conversations and text message exchanges. What were you telling him and what was your pitch?
Green: “I mean, I was really just telling him about the fun we have together—the fun that this team has and how he would be welcome here with open arms. And it’s not about ‘I’ with us on this team. It’s all about ‘we’ and winning championships. He fits that mold perfectly because that’s who he is. It doesn’t take him changing his whole game or changing his personality to come join us. He’s just going to be Kevin.”
Now it’s going to be interesting seeing how Durant’s attitude changes now that he’s with a team that has a much more chilled makeup than the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Let’s be honest, KD hasn’t looked like the happiest bunny in the league has he. We can clearly see him getting buckets, but will he gel on a chemistry level?
