Flores started his career with the New England Patriots at several positions from pro scout to safeties and linebackers coach. In 2019, he was hired by the Dolphins to become their 13th head coach in franchise history. His first season was a tough one with a 5-11 record but in the second one he finished second in the division and missed the playoffs just by one game.
After an impressive second season with a great rookie performance from rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa and one of the top defenses in the league, expectations were high coming into the season.
The Dolphins season didn’t start as expected with a 7-game losing streak after Week 1, however they turned the ship around for 7-game win streak starting in Week 9. At the end, the Dolphins couldn’t make the playoffs leaving Flores with three seasons without getting to the postseason.
“After evaluating where we are as an organization and what we need going forward to improve, I determined that key dynamics of our football organization weren’t functioning at a level I want it to be and felt that this decision was in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins. I believe we have a talented young roster in place and the opportunity to be much better in 2022”, said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross on a statement.
With the recent monday morning firings, there are six head coach vacancies currently in the NFL: Jaguars, Raiders, Broncos, Bears, Vikings, and Dolphins.
