There are few rising artists that are drawing as much attention as Doechii. The newly-signed Top Dawg Entertainment recording artist is building a global fan base with her confidence, talent and ability to open up about all that it has taken to get to this moment. Over the last few months, she’s put her talent on display at Coachella, the 2022 BET Awards and The Tonight Show. Most recently, she stopped by MTV to deliver a live performance of her breakout single, “Persuasive,” and her new track, “B*tch I’m Nice.”
“When I made ‘B*tch, I’m Nice,’ I was kind of auditioning with another label. They had that beat and it just made me want to rap. When I made the song, it wasn’t that intentional, to be honest. I just wanted to prove to myself and to them that I was skilled,” she said about her new single.
“So, I was just looking for a lot of different cadences and I just wanted to rap. That’s how ‘B*tch, I’m Nice’ kind of came about. I just wanted it to be cocky and have this energy of like, ‘I’m here. I’m good. I’m nice and I’m worthy.'”
In addition to delivering two performances on MTV, Doechii also shared a bit of news about her forthcoming EP. While she didn’t share the release date, the TDE star said that the project would feature four tracks.
“I’m doing a four-pack EP. That’s going to be coming out. It’s called She/Her/Black B*tch,” she said.
“In my Instagram bio, I put those as my pronouns because I’m really attached to the phrase, ‘Black b*tch.’ It’s something that I feel like I’ve heard a lot in my life. It’s something that people have tried to tear me down with and I’ve kind of tapped into that energy and realized what it really means to be a Black b*tch. Now, I really love it. I feel like these four songs kind of explain the four layers of the Black b*tch.”
Top Dawg Entertainment has a number of talented acts on the rise, including Zacari, Ray Vaughn, Reason and Doechii. All four rising acts have released new music in the last month and it looks like the label is preparing for a strong run in the fall.
