2023 Kentucky Wildcats five-star signee DJ Wagner has had his high school career cut short after an on-court brawl. Wagner’s school Camden was taking on fellow New Jersey powerhouse Eastside in the Camden County boy’s basketball championship game on Thursday when an on-court brawl broke out. After the altercation, the county school district removed both schools from the NJSIAA state tournament, ending their seasons. Camden, who are the reigning champions of group two will not get the chance to defend their title with Wagner in his senior season. Next year he will be a freshman for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Senior Communications Director for the Camden City School District Sheena Yera said the following after the altercation: “We are disappointed to learn that this evening’s Camden County Championship basketball game between Camden High School and Eastside High School has been suspended following an on-the-court altercation during the game. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and fans. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. This incident is not an indication of who we are.”
DJ Wagner has plenty of basketball ahead of him with both Kentucky and later the NBA. The five-star recruit is a likely “one and done” prospect and is in the conversation for the number on overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. This may be the end of his high school career, but basketball is not done with Wagner.
