Discover has announced that they have made a $5 million commitment toward Black-owned restaurants. Through November, 200 Black-owned restaurants will receive $25,000 grants to help with the economic strife endured through the pandemic.
“COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on businesses across the United States, and we want to help effect positive change by offering financial support to Black-owned restaurants, a segment of the economy that has been disproportionately impacted during this pandemic,” Discover Executive Vice President and President of U.S. Cards Julie Loeger said.
“Through this campaign, people across the country can support their favorite Black-owned restaurants. By sharing the names of these establishments on social media, it not only helps promote these businesses, but it also nominates them for a chance at $25,000,” she added.
Thus far, three Black-owned restaurants in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina have received grants. Moving forward, supporters can go to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to nominate their favorite restaurant. Weekly grant recipients will be notified beginning on Jul 13, 2020 and continue for 17 weeks. To learn more, visit Discover’s Eat It Forward website.
