DeAndre Bembry’s brother Adrian Potts was shot and killed during a dispute in North Carolina on Saturday, according to Philly.com.
According to their mother, Potts was shot while trying to play peacemaker in a dispute about a cell phone. Three others were injured and no arrests have been made.
Bembry is a former Saint Joseph’s star set to play in the NBA next season. He is projected as a late first-round or early second-round pick and viewed by many as a potential steal late in the draft.
According to Bembry’s coach, Phil Martelli, Potts was in Charlotte to plan a draft night party for his brother.
Bembry and Potts seem to have been very close with the latter joining his brother on campus often and watching his last two basketball games at Saint Joseph’s during the NCAA Tournament.
Obviously this is a difficult time for Bembry and his family just days before starting his future with an NBA career.
We will continue to think of and pray for DeAndre and his family as they mourn the loss of Adrian Potts.
