David Stern, who served as the commissioner of the NBA for 30 years, has passed away as a result of a brain hemorrhage he suffered on December 12th. The NBA has released the following statement regarding Stern’s passing:

David Stern is notable as being one of the most important and influential figures in the history of the NBA. Under Stern’s leadership, the league added seven expansion teams and entered numerous international markets, as well as overseeing the rise to stardom of figures that have defined modern basketball such as Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’ Neal, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
