
Boston Red Sox retired star David Ortiz has reportedly been shot in his home country, the Dominican Republic.
Local reports say that the shooting occurred in a disco club called Dial’s Disco, located in the countries capital, Santo Domingo. Ortiz was reportedly hit in the lower back during in what was originally thought to be an attempted robbery.
However, ESPN’s Jeff Passan has reported that Police in the Dominican Republic are saying that the alleged video of the shooting shows a man walking up to the bar and aiming the gun point blank before firing.
A further update from Dionisio Soldevilla who is at the clinic where Ortiz is being treated, Ortiz is stable and in surgery right now.

Nicknamed “Big Papi”, David Ortiz, had a very successful career spanning from 1997-2016 with the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox. He spent the first 6 years of his career as a member of the Twins and played the remaining 14 years as a member of the Red Sox.
He was always known as a major threat for the long ball, finishing his career with an impressive 541 homers, while batting for contact as well with a .286 career batting average. Retiring at the age of 40 Ortiz finished while he was on top, in his last season hitting 37 homers and driving in 127 RBI, making it actually one of his better seasons in his career. Ortiz is a legend not only in Boston but to anyone that loves the game of baseball.
