Former EuroLeague Coach of the Year and Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers David Blatt has been hired by the New York Knicks as a basketball consultant, as confirmed by an official team press release. Blatt recently retired from his role as the coach of Greek professional club Olympiacos and will look to lend some of his basketball knowledge to a struggling Knicks organization.

David Blatt served as the coach of the Cavaliers from 2014 until 2016, agreeing to the job shortly before LeBron James’ decision to return to Cleveland. The animosity between James and Blatt was believed to have led to Blatt’s firing and subsequent replacement with Tyronn Lue.
Blatt’s extensive experience around professional basketball, having served in a coaching capacity since 1993, is being sought to help a Knicks team that has experienced a dismal season so far. The Knicks have crawled to a 7-21 record through 28 games, recently parting ways with Head Coach David Fizdale, compounding the hardships placed on the team through their less than impressive showing in this season’s free agency period.
