After 3 seasons of being Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon spin-off TV show, Damon Wayans has apparently had enough. Damon has been on the hit FOX show for 3 seasons as the co-star in the show but it seems like the Wayans Brother wants to ride into the sunset and finish off his career somewhere else.
“I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13,” Wayans said in a video interview. “So I really don’t know what they’re planning, but that’s what I’m planning. I’m a 58-year-old diabetic and I’m working 16-hour days.”
Asked by his off-camera interviewer, “So you’re over it?” Wayans replied — referencing his character from the series, “I’m done. Like Murtaugh said, I’m too old for this.” Asked if he’s kidding, Wayans shook his head and said “No.” As for what he’s going to do next, Wayans added, “I’m going to return to the stage and try to find my smile again.”
Now you’d think his exit is because they replaced his co-star in season 3. Warner Brothers removed Clayne Crawford after issues arose between him and Wayans, which sparked a debate in the company pertaining to if the show should even be renewed.
The show was in fact renewed for a 3rd season and Crawford was replaced by American Pie actor Seann William Scott. Now there’s no telling if Wayans and Scott don’t get along but he certainly hasn’t changed Wayans mind about leaving.
With his sights set on a different horizon, the Wayans brother said he’s going to return to theatre and try to find his smile. Something he made all of us do during his time in My Wife & Kids.
