Nike LeBron X – “Crown Jewel”
The “Crown Jewel” or The Cullinan diamond was sold to the South African Republic for £ 150,000, who immediately presented it to King Edward VII of England on his birthday as a token of friendship between the two countries the diamond was examined for months to determine the ideal cut. Joseph Asscher of Holland, the premier cleaver of his time, prepared a half-inch incision and custom knife. As legend tells it, Asscher kept a medical staff on standby and upon striking the diamond to see it break in perfect halves, he promptly fainted. It was cut further into nine major gems and 96 brilliants, the greatest being Cullinan I or ‘Great Star of Africa’ at 530.2 carats, by far the world’s largest flawless cut diamond. It now rests in the ‘Sceptre with the Cross’ alongside the other Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.
