There comes a time in every sneakerhead’s mind when you wonder “Why haven’t I seen those on anybodies feet?” Now I know the majority of the time these releases are QS (quick strike) and the limited nature of the shoe is exactly why the question of where are they arises. My thing is I am constantly in the streets of NYC throughout each borough and there are shoes that have released I NEVER see on people’s feet. Now maybe you sneakerhead’s are just heavy collectors or just plan on leaving the shoes deadstock for years to come before breaking them out. Why? I don’t know I am a firm believer of wearing your kicks.
So with that being said I felt it was a good time, considering the state in which the sneaker game is in that we share just a little countdown on some sneakers we consider a “Myth.” Now when we use the word “myth” it goes back to reiterate the whole notion on shoes that have released but we don’t ever see them. When I mentioned “considering the state in which the sneaker game is in” I am referring to the constant hype over certain releases that has grown since about maybe ’09 up until now.
Now these (quickstrikes/myths/limited editions) aren’t such a bad thing if you’re all for having “quality” in your collection than having “quantity” but not EVERY release is a quickstrike. The term “quick strike” actually has transformed in meaning over the years as the world wide web has advanced. A quick strike use to be kicks that would show up in retailers shipments and consumers as well as the retailer sometimes had no idea that they would be getting the shoe. But now that isn’t the case so much anymore.
The constant hype for shoes especially GR’s (general releases) to me is what is killing the culture of the sneaker game. The hype for GR’s is causing releases to be more and more “quick strike-like” or making them seem more limited than when that should not be the case.General releases aren’t bad either but there is this misconception that in order to be a true sneakerhead/collector you have to every single release….
….We will actually save this discussion for another time.
After the jump you will see some of the releases from 2009 till now that we felt were Myths.
