Well, looks like Freeform is moving on from Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger. According to Deadline, the network has passed on picking the series up for another season. Its second season ended earlier this year.
Not a critical dud by any means, the series premiered to positive reviews last year. However, the second season saw a massive fall-off in viewership and that caused the network to cancel it. Freeform did release a statement regarding the cancelation though.
“We are so proud of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and the trailblazing stories this series told. We are also grateful to our incredible talent Oliva Holt and Aubrey Joseph for bringing these beloved characters to life, and showrunner Joe Pokaski for his vision. We’d like to thank our partners at Marvel Television for a wonderful two seasons and are we are hopeful that we can find another project together.”
Now, there’s always the chance that Cloak & Dagger could show up on another network, specifically Disney+. But, there are at least 6 other Marvel shows in development there so, the Freeform orphan would likely take a back seat. AND, with rumors that Marvel’s canceled Netflix shows could reappear on the new streaming platform, Cloak & Dagger seems like its probably over.
Cloak & Dagger is available on Hulu in its entirety right now.
