A Sally Ride biopic is in development at Lionsgate, according to a press release from the studio on Thursday. Ride was the first American woman to go to space in 1983. Simply titled Ride, the film was written by Krystin Ver Linden and Cassie Pappas. Transparent creator Jill Soloway is attached to direct the film. She’s also set to produce the film alongside Andrea Sperling and Kristin Burr.
President of Lionsgate, Nathan Kahane, released a statement regarding the upcoming film. “Sally Ride is an American Hero and icon whose life and career was and is endlessly fascinating and inspirational. In the hands of Jill Soloway and our tremendous team of producers, we feel we have the right storytellers to honor and properly tell Sally’s incredible story.”
Lionsgate has been busy over the last few years. On the back of its already successful John Wick franchise, the studio is developing a spin-off called Ballerina. Plot specifics are light on that one but it’s set to follow a female assassin on a quest to avenge her family. The studio has also got Bombshell hitting theaters later this year. The film detailing the downfall of former Fox News head Roger Ailes has received heaps of Oscar buzz in recent weeks.
Ride has yet to receive a release date.
