The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have landed the commitment of 2020 Top 45 Center Cliff Omoruyi. He is ranked as the second-best recruit the Scarlet Knights have landed since they began ranking players in the early 2000s. This commitment will help boost a Rutgers team that took the NCAA by storm this year. The did not get to test their luck in the NCAA Tournament this year because of the Coronavirus Outbreak. Omoruyi picked the Scarlet Knights over Arizona State and Auburn.

The Arizona State Sun Devils seemingly had Cliff Omoruyi’s commitment in the bag, but after he announced his commitment announcement things shifted quickly. It became fairly clear that Rutgers had shifted to the top spot for the center. Head Coach Steve Pikiell has been building a seriously talented program for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Landing a Top 45 recruit is another sign that Rutgers is ready to take the next step in college basketball.

Omoruyi is listed at 6’10” and 230 pounds which are ideal numbers for the center position. The Roselle Catholic High School prospect should translate to the college game fairly quickly. Getting guys like Omoruyi is great because they are incredibly talented and should stick around the program for three or four years. He should even be able to provide an immediate impact for the Scarlet Knights.
This could be a sign of things to come for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. If they continue to land prospects in the Top 50 they should continue to get better and compete at higher levels in the NCAA.
