The Mississippi State Bulldogs have hired New Mexico State Aggies Head Coach Chris Jans to be their next Head Coach. This comes after the program fired their former Head Coach Ben Howland and after Jans and the Aggies were eliminated in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The SEC has seen a significant upheaval of the programs’ head coaches this offseason. Jans makes a significant jump into the SEC and will be tasked with getting the Bulldogs to a more competitive level.

Chris Jans has done a phenomenal job with the New Mexico State Aggies in the Western Athletic Conference. While there he has led the program to an overall record of 122-32 and a conference record of 64-13. Six of those 13 losses came in one down season. He placed first in the WAC regular-season four of the five seasons as the Head Coach and won the WAC Conference Tournament three times. He made the NCAA Tournament three times, but it would have likely been four had the 2020 NCAA Tournament not been canceled.

The SEC is a highly competitive basketball conference and Chirs Jans will have his work cut out for him at Mississippi State. That being said he is a talented Head Coach and knows how to win games. It will be interesting to see what direction he decides to take the Bulldogs in when he gets there and sets up his era of the program.
