Chantelle Cameron looked as sharp as ever as she defended her WBC Super Lightweight belt and sought Mary McGee’s IBF Super Lightweight belt. Cameron won nearly every round in what was a very competitive fight in the U.K. The Northampton native kept McGee at bay with her speed and footwork. She also showed a great chin as McGee displayed great power and kept coming forward throughout the fight.
“She was tough, she took some shots, I always thought she’d be tough and powerful,” she said after the fight, according to BBC.
Cameron’s victory sets up a fight for the undisputed super lightweight title agains the winner of Jessica Camara-Kali Reis. Reis was present at the fight in Northampton and appeared confident that she would beat Camara and Cameron. Shortly after the fight, Cameron met Reis with the same energy.
“It doesn’t matter who I face next I’m taking the belts anyway,” Cameron sad.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn indicated that the undisputed fight would take place in the first quarter of 2022. In the meantime, Hearn and Matchroom will look forward to the November 19 matchup between Camara and Reis in Manchester, New Hampshire.
