Chance the Rapper and Nico Segal, formerly known as Donnie Trumpet, are coming together once again to help create Hope, a movie musical that will be developed and financed by MGM.
The Chicago rapper will partner as a producer alongside Haight Films’ Pat Corcoran and Tradecraft’s Scott Berstein, while Segal will create the film’s music.
Chance and Segal partnered in 2015 for the collaborative album Surf.
Hope follows a group of teenagers who come together to turn art into action within the Chicago community.
“From day one, our mission at Haight Films has been to apply Haight Braid’s artist-first and Chicago-proud ideology to the film space,” said Corcoran, who is also Chance’s manager. “We are incredibly excited to be working alongside Chance, MGM and Scott Bernstein to bring this vision to life.”
Chance has always given back to his hometown. He previously launched the #SaveChicago campaign to combat gun violence, donated $1 million to local schools and mental health services and created Social Works, an organization that empowers youth through arts, education and civic engagement.
