After a long, drawn-out search for a playmaker to join the squad, after LeBron James butting heads with the team, after an apparent lack of assistance based on their sub .500 record in January, the Cavs finally made a decision. They will ink Derrick Williams to a 10-Day contract.
Derrick Williams was recently waived by the Miami Heat in favor of Okaro White remaining on the squad. But now the former number two overall pick from the 2011 NBA Draft will join two of his former fellow 2011 draftees. Kyrie Irving was selected with the first overall pick, and Tristan Thompson was selected with the fourth overall pick.
Shams Charania of The Vertical on Yahoo! Sports announced the signing.

(UPDATE 3/4/17) After two successful 10-day contracts, the Cavs elected to sign Derrick Williams for the remainder of the season, the team announced today.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed forward Derrick Williams to a contract for the remainder of the season, Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced on Saturday from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Williams (6-8, 245) has appeared in nine games with the Cavaliers this season, averaging 10.3 points on .561 shooting from the field and 3.1 rebounds in 24.2 minutes. He originally signed with the Cavs on Feb. 9, the first of two consecutive 10-day contracts. Prior to joining Cleveland, he played in 25 games (11 starts) with Miami this season and averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15.1 minutes.
For weeks there have been numerous rumors about who the Cavs might be interested in bringing to the team. From Jose Calderon to Lance Stephenson, even had a thought about Andrew Bogut, and even held a free agent workout the Cavs ended up with Williams. A player who has never been an All-Star, someone who has been on five different teams in six NBA season and has averaged 9 points per game, four rebounds and 0.7 assists in his career. Let’s see if this works for the team.
