Pump the brakes!
On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the highly-anticipated battle between Terence Crawford and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was reportedly called off. The two champions were expected to meet at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 13, 2025, but it appears they will move in separate directions for the time being.
Crawford, 37, is undefeated with a record of 41-0 with 31 knockouts. In his last two outings, the Omaha, Nebraska native has dethroned Errol Spence Jr. to capture the undisputed welterweight title and defeated Israil Madrimov for the WBA Super Welterweight Championship. However, he has been largely inactive throughout the first half of the decade, fighting once per year since 2020. Without Alvarez, it’s unclear who Crawford will look to fight next or if he’ll call it a career.
Meanwhile, Alvarez, 34, is looking for his next opponent in May. IBF Super Middleweight Champion William Scull and unbeaten contender Christian Mbilli have emerged as potential adversaries for the Mexican fighter over the last month, but recent reports point to Jake Paul as his next opponent. However, Paul nor Alvarez have publicly addressed reports of a potential showdown in either May or July.
