Milwaukee has been aggressive in its pursuit of free agents this summer, so far acquiring Matthew Dellavedova and Mirza Teletovic, along with pursuing the likes of Dwyane Wade, Joakim Noah, and Kent Bazemore.
Recently, Milwaukee’s front office has expressed an intense desire to fill in its final two roster spots with veteran players. They’ve engaged in discussions with Steve Novak, Ray Allen, and now Jason Terry. Sporting a young nucleus consisting of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Michael Carter-Williams, and Jabari Parker, the Bucks would be thrilled with adding two or three experienced veterans to their locker room.
The Bucks are expected to re-sign free agent Steve Novak, meaning one more roster spot would be open. Should they ink Jason Terry, it’d likely mean a reunion between the franchise and Ray Allen is no longer an option, barring an unlikely trade or waiving.
Terry, 38, averaged 5.9 points on 36% shooting from deep last season with the Rockets. Terry never considered retiring this summer, stating his goal would be to join a contender next season.
“(I’m) not retiring at all,” Terry told Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News early in the summer. “Just looking for another opportunity to get back on a contender. But if that opportunity doesn’t present itself, still being able to go in and have an impact in the locker room on the younger players and provide quality minutes off the bench. My body feels great. My mind is still sharp.”
Throughout his 17-year career, he’s made stops with Atlanta, Dallas, Boston, Brooklyn, and Houston. Terry won an NBA championship with the Mavericks in 2011, and is ranked top-5 in NBA history on career three-pointers made. Terry was open to re-signing with the Mavericks this summer, but the two sides ultimately never agreed to a deal.
Terry, who’s bound to one day be inducted into the NBA’s Hall of Fame, has scored 18,408 points, dished out 5,258 assists, and hit 2,169 threes in 1,285 career games in the league.
