This year, a new men’s heavyweight champion will be crowned in the Professional Fighters League. Earlier this week, the reigning heavyweight champion, Bruno Cappelozza, revealed that he would not be able to participate in the playoff tournament due to an undisclosed injury. As a result, Matheus Scheffel will take his place when the playoffs begin in Wales this August.
Bruno Cappelozza put together a string of strong performances during the 2021 PFL season. With an overall record of 15-6, the Brazilian heavyweight won all four of his matches en route to the title and $1 million prize. He kicked off the 2022 PFL season with a first-round TKO victory against Stuart Austin before losing by unanimous decision in his second regular season bout.
Matheus Scheffel was the man who was able to end Bruno Cappelozza’s unbeaten streak earlier this season. Unfortunately, he did not perform well enough in his other bouts to earn a spot in the playoffs. However, a stroke of luck will allow him to compete for the title and $1 million prize. His postseason campaign will kick off on August 13 in Wales against Denis Goltsov.
