In today’s landscape, it’s not common for many artists on the rise to take time off between projects. In fact, the rat race of the music industry often dictates that many artists, particularly rappers on the rise, deliver new music yearly, if not monthly. While this model may work for some artists, others are best traveling their own and delivering new music when they feel their fans need it most.
It’s been two years since Brian Brown dropped Journey and Jewly Hight published a few pieces about the Nashville scene. In the two years that have passed, Brian Brown may not have been dropping full-length projects, but he’s been anything other than absent. Whether it’s performing at the National Museum of African-American Music or dropping features that catch the attention of the Tenessee Titans, he’s been out and about. Now, he feels it’s time to give listeners a taste of what’s to come.
Celebrating the two-year anniversary of Journey and kicking off his 2023 campaign, the Nashville native has set a release date for his new EP, Two Minute Drill. The conceptual, four-track EP collects the talents of Raemi, Topper Atwood, Sir Illington, Por Vida and Krashmaxx for a body of work that can only be described as authentic.
“[There’s] two minutes left. [The] ball [is] in yo hands.[Everything] to gain, nun to lose. You gon’ bbq or mildew?” Brian Brown tweeted as he shared the tracklist and cover art.
To add to the project’s release, he has also set up a show at DRKMTTR in Nashville to celebrate the release of his new EP and deliver a full performance of Journey. Check out the tracklist below and grab some tickets to the show before they sell out.
