The Florida Gators have dismissed redshirt junior linebacker Brenton Cox Jr from the program according to the school. There is currently no explanation for why the linebacker and top defender is no longer with the program. Cox Jr began his career with the Georgia Bulldogs but transferred to the Florida Gators before the 2019 season. Since that transfer, the program fired Head Coach Dan Mullen and hired current Head Coach Billy Napier. The Florida Gators are currently 4-4 on the season and just lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 42-20 on Saturday.
#Gators coach Billy Napier confirms veteran defender Brenton Cox Jr. dismissed from the team. ‘We’ve decided to move on here.’

This season with the Florida Gators, Brenton Cox Jr recorded 15 solo tackles, 35 total tackles, two sacks, one pass defended, and a team high eight tackles for a loss. The reasoning from Head Coach Billy Napier seems to center around team fit and the overall health of the program this year. Cox Jr still has legibility left and could head to another program next season or he could declare for the 2023 NFL Draft in the Spring. Regardless his future will not be with the Florida Gators moving forward. We here at Def Pen Sports will provide an update if one becomes available in the future.
