The UVA Cavaliers will be without starter Braxton Key for an indefinite amount of time. Key suffered a wrist injury after coming down hard on it during the Cavalier’s win over Arizona State in the Air Force Reserve Tip-Off Tournament. Key averaged 10.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game for the defending national champs.
“Obviously that’s a tough blow because he brings some heart and effort on the glass and energy defensively, and just his experience,” -Tony Bennett
The Cavs are also down sophomore starter Kody Stattmann to illness as well. UVA will look to rely on freshman Casey Morsell, and junior college transfer guard Tomas Woldetensae. Morsell delivered in the past few games by scoring 19 of the 48 points against Arizona State. Key, the Alabama transfer was a major contributor to the Cavaliers during their championship run and is a defensive stalwart. Jay Huff, Kihei Clark and Mamadi Diakite will have to shoulder the load as ACC play soon approaches.
