For months, Tyson Fury has hinted that he may be looking to retire from the sport of boxing. However, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum may have expressed the opposite while speaking to reporters recently. According to Arum, Top Rank has been in contact with representatives for unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk regarding a potential showdown.
“I’m hoping that Usyk wins because I have talked with his people and I think they would be anxious to fight Tyson Fury,” he told Barbershop Conversations.
“And I am hoping to do that fight in December or early next year.”
Before Oleksandr Usyk can get in the ring with Tyson Fury, he must get by former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on August 20. While Joshua poses a threat to Usyk, Arum believes that the Ukrainian fighter will cruise by his opponent for the second time.
“I just think Usyk is a better talent than Joshua and he is certainly quicker than him and I would like Usyk in the undisputed fight,” Arum said.
“But could it go the other way, yes possibly.”
A few things will have to unfold before the two fighters push for the undisputed heavyweight crown, but Arum’s recent comments indicate that Fury is looking to continue his pro career.
