Bo Burnham has opted to leave the role of Larry Bird in HBO’s upcoming series about the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers due to “scheduling conflicts.” Instead, Sean Patrick Small will take his place. Small celebrated the development by posting a thank you message on Instagram.
“It’s official! [I am] so happy to be able to share with you all this amazing opportunity I have been presented with by HBO and the producing team. [I am] so incredibly lucky to be a part of an amazing cast and crew. [I] can’t wait to show the world what we’re cooking up,” Small wrote.
“Thank you to all of my family and friends for support, even though I couldn’t tell you what I was doing!”
Small is not the only new addition to the upcoming series on HBO. Olli Haaskivi has been tapped to play the role of Phil Knight, the founder of Nike. Also, Rachel Hilson will portray Cindy Day, Magic Johnson’s girlfriend. Rounding out the slate of additions, Newton Mayenge will play veteran NBA forward Jim Chones and Jon Young will play the role of Brad Holland.
The show remains in production as they prepare for an expected release in 2022.
