Bird Box is the latest in the steady stream of Netflix movies that are starting to trickle down. The film is an adaptation of Josh Malerman’s post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock in the lead role. Bullock plays Malorie, a mother that is fighting for her survival and her children’s against an unseen evil force.
The new trailer gives us a good look at what to expect from this thriller flick. Right off the bat, we see Sandra and her children blindfolded ringing a bell with eerie music, and Bullock yelling, “Please don’t take my children!”. Flashback to before, and we see Malorie care not too much for her pregnancy as she calls it a condition.
As she comes out of the hospital a woman bangs her head against the window without flinching and with deadly intentions. This seems to be the origin of the epidemic as “People describe seeing an entity that takes on the form of your worst fears”. In a tragic dystopia, we see Bullock along with her children and a few accomplices try to band together blindfolded to survive imminent death.
The movie seems almost reminiscent of A Quiet Place, which centered around a family that was trying to survive monsters that kill you if they hear a noise. Instead of being mute this movie will take the sight of the characters, making for a gripping thriller. A Quiet Place came to quite some success so it will be intriguing to see how this thriller will do after the banking of the release of a movie that seems similar. Thankfully though, at least Bird Box will be filled with dialogue so there will be more character development and story to digest, even though the former was a great film.
Bird Box is slated to release December 21st of this year, available on Netflix.
