Beyoncé has established a $500,000 scholarship fund for those interested in attending cosmetology school or opening a salon. Grants derived from the fund will be distributed to a “large, diverse community of hair stylists” in the following cities and states: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New Jersey.
“Fostering talent, promoting professionalism, and supporting entrepreneurship within the hair industry is deeply important to us. That’s why we’re partnering with Cécred to create the Cécred x BeyGOOD Fund, which celebrates the influence professional stylists have on hair health and the critical importance of advocating for the salon community,” a statement from BeyGOOD, Beyoncé’s philanthropic imprint, reads.
The launch of Beyoncé’s scholarship fund coincides with the debut of Beyoncé’s haircare line Cécred. The haircare line offers shampoos, conditioners, treatments, stylers, tools and accessories to those with “textured hair like [Beyoncé’s] and others who lack moisture and strength.”
“I built Cécred from the ground up. I poured into it everything I’ve learned throughout my life so we can borrow some of our past and bring it to the future,” Beyoncé said.
“Cécred is about prioritizing yourself and all the things you hold sacred.”
Cécred is available beginning Tuesday, February 20. Also, applications for the scholarship fund open Tuesday, February 20.
