
On Sunday, February 11, 2024, an armed shooter opened fire at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. The shooter, described as a women in her 30s, was reportedly shot and killed.
“Info remains preliminary, as things remain dynamic. It is believed that a possible shooter is down, shot by one of our deputy’s on-scene. I’m [en route] to the scene,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted.
[The] shooter is down. But it does not appear that [Harris County] deputies fired shots; other agencies fired. We continue to assist in a methodical/thorough search of the complex.”
Additional reporting indicates a child and a man in his late 50s were shot. At this time, the Houston Chronicle reports that the older gentlemen was hit in his hip and remains in stable condition while the child is said to be in critical condition.
“Unfortunately, the 5 year-old kid was hit and is in critical condition at a local hospital,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said.
“There was a 57-year-old man who didn’t have anything to do with it, I don’t think, who was shot in the leg. He’s seeking treatment in the hospital.”
Lakewood Church is led by American pastor and televangelist Joel Osteed. An estimated 45,000 people pass through the church each day with Sunday being the venue’s busiest day, filled with services and other activities. An afternoon service was scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m., approximately 36 minutes after the shooting began.
